Sydney & Wollongong Fishing Report

Botany Bay has been fishing well lately with a wide range of fish being caught in it. Flathead, whiting, flounder, small blackfish, jewfish and kingfish all among the fish caught over the last week.

Bruce has been doing well himself in the Bay lately, at the end of last week he managed two nice big jewfish, unfortunately one got eaten by a shark on the way up… He’s also been smashing the kingfish with 2 caught this morning and another three caught yesterday.

One Taren Point customer was trolling out the front of Botany Heads in 50 fathoms and had a striped marlin come up and hit his lures but he missed it, then a sailfish came and whacked them a while later but he also missed that. The third time around another striped marlin hit them and he ended up fighting that for an hour before landing it.

Brothers Ash and Hayden had a successful session in the Hacking River fishing for kings with a couple of nice fish between them.

John has been fishing for kings lately and doing well out off Cronulla and in the Port Hacking River, he and Jack managed 7 fish all up from rats up to a solid 75cm. He also caught a nice Samsonfish in the Hacking which is more commonly seen around this time with these warmer waters. Also a couple of nice flathead thrown in the mix too.

The FADs are still fishing really well for dolphinfish, one customer landing a nice 1.2m and another 90cm fish. Rod is pictured with a very nice 18kg fish he caught last Thursday, and his mate with another nice fish, they caught both in at the Botany FAD.

Kai Moylan has been doing well lately using a range of lures and bait. A great 40cm bream caught on bait, two nice flathead caught on blades and soft plastics, and a solid trevally in the high 40cm’s caught on a Bottom Magic lure.

Gary Brown fished the rocks down at Cronulla recently and got himself a nice mixed bag of squid, drummer, and bream.

Reports of tailor being caught off Wanda beach.

Ned travelled up from Moruya to avoid the fires last week and came and saw us in-store before heading to Hill 60. We showed him the Jackson G-Control lure as his standard metals weren’t getting anything, and he finally managed to land his first ever bonito!

Reports of bream and tailor in the shallows off Thirroul beach.

Flathead were caught yesterday in Lake Illawarra near the Windang bridge on lures and soft plastics. The Samaki Vibelicious did the job for Andrew from our wollongong store and some bloodworm coloured paddle tail plastics worked for a father and daughter fishing close to him.
